Really happy and grateful for being at this point in my life. Looking back on last year I struggled a lot, being unable to address the flaws in my study methods and time management. I was motivated, yet a bit scared of all the big assignments I had to do and hand in on time.
But again I found out what I am made of. Everytime I fell down, I got up. I learnt to take good care of myself; every morning I did one simple task for which I would thank myself in the evening. Everyday I made one small, simple step that would pave the road for the day after. There were weeks in which I had worked and worked and worked, and then still failed and missed my deadline, causing me to fail my class. Each time that happened, I took a long and hard look into the mirror, analyzed my mistakes, and mapped out a plan on how to do better next time.
I have built a safe and strong network of friends, teachers and marketing professionals to help me through tough and busy times. The biggest lessons I learnt were:
1. Everything is in my control. If I fail, it’s because of what I did. If I succeed, it’s because of what I did. You can let others help you, or let them distract you, it’s entirely up to you. Take responsibility AND pride in your own actions. Stand up for what you believe in.
2. Everything you focus on, will grow. Visualize your dreams, write them down, talk about them, surround yourself with likeminded people.
3. F*ck the losers. Stay away from people who can’t stop complaining about their life, about how other people treat them, or about you, even. These are people who (unawarely) try to keep you from growing. They are grumpy, hold grudges, and are mad at the world. Don’t confuse them with good people going through a rough patch; be there for them. You can tell a lot about people by the way they blame others for their own problems. Stay away from them and their destructive way of thinking, they will distract you.
4. Keep going. It will suck so bad on a lot of days, sometimes weeks or even months in a row. You will have long and intense days of hard work, but keep pushing through. All of it will be worth it in the end. This important mantra kept me going: “If I work hard and I fail this assignment, it won’t be for nothing, ‘cause hard work and discipline builds the character of champions.”
Hell, I haven’t even graduated but I already got two assignments for REAL customers: one for an event agency, and one for the sales department of a renowned hotel group.
Thanks for keeping up with this long read, whoever you are, I hope all of you will succeed ♥.
